Instructors and volunteers are key to a successful SwimAbilities program.
Teaching Tips
These basic teaching tips help instructors and volunteers work with children with special needs and their families.
Visual Supports
Visual supports (usually drawings or pictures) can be used to help your lessons be successful. You can use visuals to show children the basic lesson plan, help them understand what to do, and even to help them make choices. Not everyone needs visuals, but they often help.
Instructors and volunteers are welcome to download and print the PDF version of Visuals for Swimming by clicking the link and following the directions. A word document version is also available if you would like to add your own images. Please contact Laura directly, for a copy.
Swim Accessories
By using your judgement as a swimming instructor, you may wish to suggest that families try specific swim accessories such as reusable swim diapers, goggles, nose plugs or ear bands. Click on the swim accessories link for additional information.
